Discover Neive

Neive is an ancient hilltop village in the Langhe, the area southeast of the Tanaro Rivera in Piemonte, the farthest north and farthest west region of Italy. Neive is about four miles northeast of Alba and roughly an hour and a half by car from international airports at Turin, Genoa, and Milan. he Langhe area, inhabited for about 5,000 years, is so renowned for its art, culture, and sustainable artisan food and wine that it is part of a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The historic center Narrow cobblestone streets, stately homes hundreds of years old, and public buildings dating back to the thirteenth century characterize the old hilltop walled village of Neive.
While its treasured historic architecture is carefully preserved, Neive is not an uninhabited museum piece but rather a vibrant community with excellent small inns, Barbaresco wineries, and small restaurants serving regional cuisine.

The Barbaresco landscape Neive is also the name of the surrounding comune, or municipality, which is one of the three main municipalities of the Barbaresco wine appellation. Barbaresco is one of Italy’s most famous DOCG appellations (Denominazioni di Origine Controllata e Garantita). Red wines labeled Barbaresco DOCG are, by law, made entirely from Nebbiolo grapes. Grapevines of Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto, and Moscato carpet the hillsides surrounding the historic hilltop village, turning green in summer and fiery in autumn.

Food and wine Neive is an excellent base for exploring the famous wines of Barbaresco and nearby Barolo, two of Italy’s three most famous wine appellations. The Langhe area is also renowned for traditional ingredients such as the white truffles of Alba, Piedmont hazelnuts, and traditional artisanal cheeses. Nearly every weekend at least one of the nearby villages and towns holds an annual festival celebrating local food, wine, agricultural specialties, and customs. In springtime is Vinum, a week-long indoor and outdoor festival of wine and cheese tastings, street food, and special culinary and enological events. In autumn, the region celebrates the harvest of white truffles.
